From Unlock Glasgow April Reference Group report:
The resources for this event were developed in teamwork with Sonya who works for Unlock in Liverpool, and also in teamwork with Graham Mackie who lives in the Wyndford, and who shared the leadership both in the planning and at the event.
The schools closures is a big issue in the Wyndford and that was explored at the Unlock event. Over Easter the local churches decided to re-route their annual Walk with the Cross to pass the schools. Both Church of Scotland minister and Catholic priest said a few words and joined in prayer in front of the schools. Because of this support many of the local community joined the Walk and went together to the Good Friday service afterwards. Some of the parents who were “sitting in” at the schools were in tears, they were so moved that the churches were acting together to support them.
Edited piece put together and actually used for the website report:
The resources for this event were developed in teamwork with Sonya Doragh who works for Unlock in Liverpool, and also in teamwork with Graham Mackie who lives in Wyndford, and who shared the leadership both in the planning and at the event.
The schools closures has been and is still a big issue in the Wyndford community and that was explored at the Unlock event. Over Easter the local churches decided to re-route their annual Walk with the Cross to pass the Wyndford schools, in support of the local parents who had been occupying both school buildings through the Easter holidays. The Good Friday Walk paused outside the schools, and together Church of Scotland minister and Catholic priest said a few words and joined in prayer in front of the schools. Because of this support many of the local community, parents, grandparents, children, even 2 MSPs joined the Walk and continued on to the Good Friday service afterwards. It was a large enough group to be honoured by a police presence, and to rate a mention in the Sunday Herald. Some of the parents who were “sitting in” at the schools were in tears, they were so moved that the churches were acting together to support them.
