Unlock Glasgow 2009 - Vision
Vision
We want to encourage ways of reading the Bible that begin with people’s day-to-day experiences – with the heart rather than simply the head.
Our vision is to unlock the stories of the Bible for people who do not often read books, and therefore see the Bible as daunting or off-putting.
We believe that all we do needs to be grounded in the everyday reality of people’s struggling against poverty in Glasgow’s economically poorest communities. We want to challenge the myth that these are simply ‘problem areas’ and to affirm them as good places where the gospel is very much alive.
Our experience is that the Bible is a life-changing book. When people explore the Bible in relation to their own lives, God is able to speak in their hearts. Problems turn into opportunities, and relationships appear in a new light.
We know that we grow ourselves through the insights of those we meet with.
Our vision is that more and more people will gain the confidence to continue to meet in communities discovering together how to unlock the stories in the Bible.
We aim to produce new, freely available resources on an ongoing basis.
We believe it is important that all we do together grows out of prayer, and out of our own living faith. As we look at the stories in the Bible together we will always try to listen for what the Holy Spirit may be asking us to do. |
